DESCRIPTION:Hydrogen produced by electrochemical water splitting\, where t
he electrical power comes from renewable supplies like sunlight and wind p
romises to be a key sustainable energy source replacing fossil fuels. Howe
ver\, this method of production presently cannot compete with less ‘gree
n’ approaches using methane which generates CO2 . The key challenge for
green hydrogen is to enhance the splitting of water using cheap\, effectiv
e and long-lasting catalysts replacing current materials based on precious
metals or the materials which need costly high temperatures to make and w
ear out quickly. In this seminar I will discuss our recently discovered\,
new class of effective water splitting catalysts..
