DESCRIPTION:The lower Sirwan/upper Diyala river valley is located between 
 the Zagros highlands and the Mesopotamian lowlands in northeast Iraq. Trad
 itionally\, the history of this transitional highland-lowland landscape ha
 s tended to be narrated as a story of intersecting marginalities: environm
 ental\, economic\, cultural\, and political. The regional and site-based d
 ata gathered by the Sirwan Regional Project since 2013 allows us to recons
 ider and challenge these topoi and to develop a local\, archaeological his
