  Series: Meet Mary Harper\n\nThe CGHR Practitioner Series allows students 
 to hear from and ask questions of seasoned practitioners working in intern
 ational politics\, journalism\, development and humanitarianism.\n\nCome j
 oin us for an exciting event at the Alison Richards Building\, Room S1 whe
 re we will be hosting Mary Harper for our CGHR Practitioner Series. Mary H
 arper is a journalist\, author and broadcaster. She has reported on Africa
  for the BBC for 30 years and was its Africa Editor for more than a decade
 . She has a special interest in the Horn of Africa\, especially Somalia\, 
 where she spends much of her time. Most of her reporting has been from con
 flict zones.\n\nShe has set up an award-winning independent media house in
  Mogadishu\, Bilan\, where she works alongside the team of young women jou
 rnalists.\n\nShe advises governments\, the United Nations and other instit
 utions\, and is a board member of several Africa-related organisations. Ma
 ry is a regular speaker and moderator at literary festivals\, conferences 
 and other events.\n\nShe is an expert witness in Somali-related legal case
 s and is a fellow of The Rift Valley Institute and The Heritage Institute 
 for Policy Studies.
