DESCRIPTION:Microfluidics has revolutionized small-scale fluid manipulatio
n\, enabling precise control and visualization of complex flow dynamics to
address challenges in biophysics\, biotechnology\, and healthcare. By com
bining advanced fabrication techniques with innovative sensing technologie
s\, microfluidic systems facilitate real-time exploration of fluid dynamic
s and scalable biomedical applications. This talk presents recent advancem
ents in microfluidic platforms\, focusing on their role in investigating v
iscoelastic fluid instabilities and enhancing biosensing for diagnostics a
nd personalized healthcare.\n1.	Viscoelastic Instabilities in Microfluidic
s:\nUsing selective laser-induced etching (SLE)\, we developed glass micro
fluidic devices capable of sustaining high flow rates and real-time visual
ization of 3D viscoelastic instabilities. These platforms reveal synchroni
zed motions and metachronal waves in viscoelastic flows\, as well as the i
mpact of geometric disorder on chaotic behaviors\, offering insights for b
oth industrial and biological applications.\n2.	Microfluidic Biosensing fo
r Precision Diagnostics:\nOur lab-on-a-chip systems enable rapid and preci
se diagnostics. An optomicrofluidic device with localized surface plasmon
resonance (LSPR) detects SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in plasma within 30 minutes
at a detection limit of ~0.5 pM. Complementary electrochemical immunosens
ors distinguish infection-induced from vaccine-induced antibodies in under
7 minutes. Additionally\, we developed platforms for detecting cancer bio
markers and bacteria using surface-imprinted polymers\, providing scalable
\, non-invasive solutions for diagnostics and health monitoring.\n
