DESCRIPTION:Voting Advice Applications (VAAs) have become an influential f
 eature of many electoral democracies\, offering citizens algorithmically d
 erived estimates as to how their policy preferences align with the positio
 ns of the political candidates or parties vying for election. This talk ex
 amines the dual role VAAs can play in combatting political misinformation:
  first\, by fostering fact-based reflection on public policy issues\; and 
 second\, by generating large-scale attitudinal and behavioural data that c
 an enable novel areas of inquiry into the mechanisms by which misinformati
 on spreads and influences public opinion.
