DESCRIPTION:This talk will overview two opposite properties of infinite gr
 oups and their connections to&nbsp\;\ntwo families of graphs. More precise
 ly\, property (T) relates to expander graphs (robust networks) in many way
 s\,\nwhile a-T-menability is closely connected with median graphs (economi
 c networks)\, and more generally cut metrics.\n&nbsp\;\nThis latter connec
 tion turns out to be fruitful\, for instance in the solution of the Goeman
 s-Linial conjecture\n(relevant in the Sparsest Cut Problem with general de
 mands) using the geometry of Heisenberg groups.
