DESCRIPTION:‘Re-building Structures’ is the second of the ‘In the Wa
ke of War’ series of workshops\, hosted by the Cambridge PCPC Group. Thi
s workshop will explore the frameworks\, discourses and practices that hav
e emerged in rebuilding in the wake of war.\n\nThere is a coexistence of t
 erms: nation-building\, state-building\, capacity building\, peace-buildin
g\, stabilization\, and counter-insurgency. Yet\, society seems to fall ou
t of the picture. What is the meaning and reality of these terms in post-c
onflict situations? How can international intervention build societies abr
oad? What is the relationship between a coherent sense of nationhood and t
he organisation of state structures? What are the interrelations between h
ard and soft issues i.e. economic and political issues versus gender and c
ultural issues? \n\nFollowing the workshop\, a short briefing paper will b
e drafted\, outlining the discussions to include: the essential frames of
reference\, the key issues and questions\, the lessons learned\, and any r
ecommendations put forward. \n\nStructure of the workshop:\n•	Speakers w
ill be asked to speak for 20 minutes illustrating their arguments with ref
erence to specific case studies.\n•	All participants will be invited to
submit suggestions for ‘key issues’ or ‘key questions’ which they
feel to be relevant to the topic.\n•	The respondent will use both the pr
esentations and the participants’ suggestions to highlight key cross-cut
ting issues at stake on which the discussion should be focused.\n\nProgram
