DESCRIPTION:Transport protocols are often tightly-tied to their network la
yer\, specifically designed to take implement functions that the network d
oes not deal with.\nNot surprisingly\, transport protocols also almost alw
ays follow the same communication logic as their network layer counterpart
 s.\n\nMoving from inter-connecting machines to inter-connecting informatio
n in the network (as suggested by Van\, Dirk\, Jon\, and others)\, has lar
ge consequences in transport protocol design. In this talk\, we introduce
an early design of a completely new transport protocol.\nThe new protocol
is based on the PSIRP pub/sub communication paradigm and it relies heavily
on stochastic in-network caches. We also present a simplistic comparison
of the new protocol with TCP.\n(The audience is warned of a road construc
tion ahead\; this is very much work in progress.)\n
