DESCRIPTION:Quiet Revolution Ltd. have engineered their iconic QR5 vertica
l-axis wind turbine specifically for application in the places where peopl
e live and work. This influences all aspects of the turbine\, from the gen
eral configuration to the aesthetics to the business model. In this talk\,
Tamás Bertényi\, the Innovation and Research Director at Quiet Revoluti
on and one of the original engineers\, will present an overview of the sec
tor and the main drivers\, including technical issues such as the peculiar
ities of the urban wind resource as well as some of the commercial issues.
The talk will then present why Quiet Revolution engineers believe the QR5
is the best solution for this application. This will showcase some of the
detailed engineering solutions to the unique drivers in this sector. Fina
lly\, the talk will conclude with an assessment of the product in practice
\, drawing on real-world data and observations. A complete engineering vie
w will be taken\, including operation\, maintenance and commercial conside
rations.\n\nDr Bertényi is an aeronautical engineer with a PhD from the U
niversity of Cambridge and over 14 years expertise in experimental aerodyn
amics. His experiences range from the commercial aircraft industry to the
pedagogy of Sustainable Engineering and Energy. At first a consultant on t
he initial aerodynamic design of the QR5 concept\, he joined Quiet Revolut
ion full-time when it was founded in early 2006 and went on to engineer th
e original systems design\, energy conversion system\, and control system
of the turbine\, including the patented Gust Tracking technology. As Innov
ation and Research Director\, Tamás is now focused on developing innovati
on for the next generation QR products.
