DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will describe the efforts underway at Bristol t
o produce a solar thermionic converter based on lithiated diamond nanopowd
ers. In addition to outstanding mechanical properties\, diamond is a very
interesting electronic material and we have demonstrated very low threshol
d field emission and low-temperature thermionic emission for reasons not e
ntirely clear at this point. I will present ab-initio calculations suggest
ing a lithium surface adsorbate role and describe our experimental efforts
  to investigate nanodiamond emitters.
