DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence (AI) could transform healthcare\, educ
 ation\, governance\, and equity\, but its benefits remain concentrated in 
 a few languages. Language AI — the technology behind systems like ChatGP
 T — could empower people in their native languages\, yet most of the wor
 ld’s 7\,000+ languages remain digitally marginalized. We present a globa
 l longitudinal analysis of social\, economic\, and infrastructural conditi
 ons across 6\,003 languages\, revealing widening disparities and a hype-dr
 iven diffusion of AI. To address this\, we introduce the Language AI Readi
 ness Index (EQUATE)\, which maps where capacity exists but remains underus
 ed\, providing a framework for more equitable AI diffusion.
