DESCRIPTION:In AdS/CFT the mass of a particle is related to the scaling di
 mension of the dual operator. I explain how the generalisation to p-branes
 \, which are dual to p-dimensional defects\, leads to two independent defi
 nitions of invariant brane tension. &nbsp\;I will then prove that supercon
 formal invariance equates them\, and discuss implications for the old prob
 lem of radiation-reaction for an accelerated charge.
