DESCRIPTION:UNFORTUNATELY PROF. CHOUDHARY IS UNWELL AND SO WE HAVE HAD TO
CANCEL THIS EVENT.\n\nGeothermal energy systems have the potential to sign
ificantly contribute towards the decarbonisation of heating and cooling. W
hile robust methods exist for systems at local scale\, assessing the geoth
ermal potential at city scale remains prohibitively difficult. This consti
tutes a significant barrier to wider geothermal utilisation\, as uncertain
ty can prevent investment. This talk will present a methodology for city-s
cale geothermal potential quantification\, building on previous work on qu
antifying the thermal state beneath cities. The methodology utilises stati
stical clustering to identify locations with similar thermal responses\, p
roducing ‘geothermal archetypes’\, significantly reducing computationa
l costs. Through the synergistic combination of numerical and analytical a
pproaches\, the potential for large-scale geothermal exploitation is quant
ified\, considering downstream effects.\n\nOpen to all. Book "at BookWhen"
