DESCRIPTION:When I set up 55 years ago my major goal was to understand how
insulin stimulated the synthesis of glycogen and other metabolic events\,
which was at that time was largely a 'black box'. Eventually\, when the o
utlines were clarified 25 years later\, I began to search for another blac
k box to work on\, which led me to study how the innate immune system is r
egulated by the interplay between protein phosphorylation and protein ubiq
uitylation. In the talk I will focus on how my recent studies on the role
of ubiquitylation in regulating immunity have unexpectedly led me to retu
rn to the field of glycogen metabolism where my career began.\n\nTalks are
priced at £4 for non-Scientific Society members. Scientific Society memb
ers will have free access to all our talks. Lifetime membership costs £15
and gives free access to all talks\, members-only events and priority acc
 ess to oversubscribed SciSoc events.\n
