DESCRIPTION:Part of the 2026 Cambridge Festival. Crafting Life: Responding
Creatively to Reproduction and Women’s Health brings together scientist
s\, artists\, writers\, and musicians to explore how creative practice can
illuminate and respond to research on women’s health and reproduction.\
n\nThe event will unfold in three parts\, each inviting audiences to exper
ience and reflect on the intersections between art and science. Guests are
invited to attend any or all of them as they wish.\n\n*Part 1 – Art and
Collaboration*\n(17:30–18:15)\nArtists and scientists involved in the S
ciArt project will share insights from their collaborations exploring preg
nancy\, reproduction\, and human development. Through discussion\, they wi
ll reflect on how these partnerships shaped their creative processes and t
he artworks featured in the accompanying exhibition (Part 3). \n\n*Part 2
 – Writing Reflections*\n(18:30–19:15)\nA conversation and performance
featuring Professor Amanda Sferruzzi-Perri (biologist\, Fetal and Placenta
 l Physiology)\, Dr Frances Myatt (classicist\, Department of Classics)\, a
nd Lara Gisborne (singer/songwriter)\, accompanied by multi-instrumentalis
t Matt Kelly. Together they will discuss their creative collaboration - dr
awing connections between Amanda’s research on pregnancy and women’s h
ealth\, Frances’s study of childbirth in the ancient Roman world\, and L
ara’s songwriting inspired by these conversations. The session will incl
ude live performances of songs emerging from their exchange.\n\n*Part 3
 – Exhibition*\n(19:30–20:30)\nThe evening concludes with an exhibition
of newly commissioned artworks and scientific images from the SciArt proj
ect. These works engage with themes of reproduction and reproductive healt
 h through diverse media - including textiles\, sculpture\, and painting. U
sing art as a doorway\, this exhibits invites audience members to discover
developmental biology in a way that goes beyond scientific jargon\, creat
ing a space for conversations between science and real life. The display w
ill also feature other pieces relating to reproduction and women’s healt
h from Cambridge collections. \n\nStay and browse the exhibition over drin
