DESCRIPTION:Does the radical involvement of AI in mathematical practice co
ntinue existing structures and ideologies or abruptly break with the past?
That is\, does AI simply accelerate ongoing processes of computation\, me
chanization\, and human-machine collaboration that date to the mid-twentie
th century (and earlier)\, or does it fundamentally alter the nature of ma
thematical practice? This presentation will reflect on historical episodes
of conceptual and computational disruption in mathematics and use the his
toriographical framework of continuity and rupture to explore these questi
