DESCRIPTION:Service research is moving towards an integrated trans-discipl
inary agenda to better understand how people\, processes\, and assets inte
ract within complex service systems for the co-creation of value with cust
omers. Yet\, how do we organize the current research environment for bette
r trans-disciplinary research? Furthermore\, the interplay between process
es and outcomes within a service system which are non-linear and multi-dir
ectional in nature suggests that the instrument of analysis may not yet be
scientifically reproducible in any meaningful manner by conventional meth
ods. Indeed\, techniques traditionally used could be\, as Miller and Page
(2007) put it\, "understand running water by catching it in a bucket". Fin
ally\, even as we are able to gain understanding of service through resear
ch\, how should intangible research be transferred to practice?\n\nThis on
e-day event on knowledge production and knowledge transfer in service prov
ides a valuable opportunity to discuss key aspects of service research and
practice from a broad scientific perspective\, and goes straight to the h
eart of the service research and practice community’s future.\n\nWhat sh
ould be the future be of methodologies and techniques for knowledge produc
tion (research) and knowledge transfer of service research and how should
 the research environment (academics\, universities\, government\, industry
) be better organized to be more effective?\n\nDuring the event\, top serv
ice scholars from all over the globe will be presenting key issues in know
ledge production and knowledge transfer in service from their disciplinary
perspectives. There will then be an interactive discussion with all parti
cipants in the afternoon during the town hall meeting.\n\nBesides the roun
dtable and town hall meeting\, we also invite you to submit a poster of yo
ur research for display during the grand challenge week. Posters will be s
elected based on the criteria of being innovative and transdisciplinary. P
oster presenters will be given the opportunity to talk about their researc
h during the lunch break of the event and after the town hall meeting. Pos
ters from research teams based in universities around the world are most e
 ncouraged.\n\nwww.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/service/events/serviceweek/roundtable.
