DESCRIPTION:A spectacular Chemistry lecture with demonstrations. Where doe
s the energy we need to keep us alive come from? Mike Hoyland takes us thr
ough some classic chemistry experiments that show how energy is transforme
d (so the flashes and bangs are not entirely gratuitous!). Find out why it
’s correct to say that water boils at 373 degrees\, what elephants tooth
paste might look like\, and what three thousand explosions in less than th
ree seconds would sound like!\n\nWarning: loud bangs\, and a barking dog!
May contain crisps.\n\nMike Hoyland started developing Chemistry shows for
the public in 2001 when he was Demonstrations Lecturer at the University
of Leeds. His challenge was (and still is) to encourage people of all ages
\, but especially children\, to take an active interest in science through
his spectacular demonstrations. He has been amazing audiences with his sh
ows ever since!\n\nEvent will be held in the BMS Lecture Theatre.\n\nFree
and open to all. Suitable for school parties & families. Please contact us
if you are bringing a large party (>20). No tickets\, so arrive early to
get a good seat.\n\nEvent organised by RSC Mid-Anglia Section & SCI Cambri
 dge & Great Eastern Region
