DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Recently there has been a lot of interest in results
which say\nthat a finite simple group is a product of M of its subgroups
of certain\ntype\, where the number M is\n(at least up to a multiplicative
constant) as small as possible. I will\nsurvey (some of) the applications
of such results and formulate an ambitious\ngeneral conjecture\, which wi
th \nM. Liebeck and A. Shalev we have proved in some (very special) cases.
