 ss the drawbacks of providing overseas aid. Formerly with the World Bank\,
  USA-based Dr Calderesi recently published the much acclaimed 'The trouble
  with Africa'\, and he will highlight some of the significant problems lon
 g term aid creates. Turning then to the short-term impact of aid\, Mr Mala
 jawe will assess the pros and cons of the immediate disaster-relief work o
 f the Red Cross and similar organisations.\n\nThis talk will highlight som
 e of the down sides of the West's "altruism"\, and will be fascinating for
  anyone considering volunteering\, campaigning or even donating to aid age
 ncies.
