DESCRIPTION:What is this phenomenon of 'leanness'? Isn’t lean just simp
le common sense\, rigorously applied? Why do lean manufacturing initiativ
es fail? How\, after over twenty years\, are new sectors 'discovering' le
an thinking? \n\nDr Scott will propose a framework and a measure to expla
in the lean phenomenon of simplicity in terms of complexity and informatio
n theory. The objective of this research and practice has been to enable
us to improve the quality of our lean outcomes in a strict manufacturing c
ontext and apply lean thinking into more challenging environments. He wil
l describe the twice award-winning lean transformation of local firm Linx
Printing Technologies. The talk will build on a paper presented to the IE
T\, with recent insights and applied learning from his PhD.\n\nDr Scott is
a Member of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers and runs "LeanIdeas":
http://www.leanideas.co.uk\, a new lean consultancy. He previously worked
in the inkjet printing industry at Linx Printing Technologies\, and at Ca
mbridge Consultants.\n\n18.45 for refreshments. Lecture starts at 19.00.
Ends at 21.00 following questions and discussion.\n\nThis talk is open to
the public and free to attend. There is no need to register.
