DESCRIPTION:Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) have played a fundamental part
  in the advancement of gas turbine engines for both the aerospace and gene
 ration industries helping to increase engine efficiencies and component li
 fe.  However\, TBCs suffer from a number of life limiting issues primarily
  oxidation of the bond coat but also from impact damage caused by both sma
 ll and large particles travelling through the engine. This seminar will di
 scuss the various aspects of erosion of TBCs and how temperature\, microst
 ructure\, particle properties\, impact angle and TBC composition affect th
 e rate of material loss due to impact.
