DESCRIPTION:Hominin vertebrae are scarce fossils\ndue to the inherent frag
ility of this anatomical element. Surprisingly\, a\nhigh percentage of the
vertebrae found in the fossil record ranging from\nAustralopithecus\, thr
ough Homo erectus to Neandertals show a plethora of\nlesions that also spe
ak about the past lifeways of extinct hominids. In\nthis talk this evidenc
e will be reviewed and a case study from the Middle\nPleistocene site of S
ima de los Huesos (Sierra de Atapuerca\, Spain) will be\nexplained in deta
 il.
