DESCRIPTION:In ekpyrotic or cyclic universe scenarios\, a contracting phas
e of cosmic evolution with a fluid whose pressure exceeds its energy densi
ty plays an important role to account for the observed isotropy of our uni
verse. In this talk\, I will present a simple model in which such an ultra
-stiff fluid is allowed to have anisotropic pressures and show that it ten
ds to deviate the universe from isotropy as it contracts. Dynamical system
s method is employed to analytically investigate the full non-linear behav
 iour of the system.
