DESCRIPTION:The past decate has witnessed an exponential soar in the numbe
 r and density of wireless devices\, with WiFi capability deployed in an ev
 er-widening range of devices\, from phones and tablets to gaming consoles\
 , HDTVs and cars. This talk presents some of the current and future challe
 nges of local and short range wireless networks and presents a few solutio
 ns. It shall tell the story of the design\, mathematical analysis\, softwa
 re simulation and hardware testbed implementation of the Multi-Carrier Bur
 st Contention\, a novel cross-layer protocol developed during the PhD with
 in the Digital Technology Group.
