DESCRIPTION:Random sphere packings\nDiscussions on the subject of sphere p
acking go back to Kepler’s conjecture (1611) although all the major resu
lts were published during the last 20 years. This project investigates the
packing density of bi-dispersed systems using simulations as well as expe
riments. The experiment uses density matching between the spheres and the
medium to avoid the granular convection.\n\nThermo-responsive polymers in
porous media\nOil recovery can be enhanced by polymer flooding as it shuts
off the high permeability channels in heterogeneous reservoirs. Thermo-re
sponsive polymers can be used in a more targeted manner and therefore redu
ce the amount polymer needed. Initial experiments and discussions about th
ermo-responsive polymer are presented in this talk.
