DESCRIPTION:In Swedish formal music education\, students from ethnic minor
 ities are significantly underrepresented. In her research\, Ylva Hofvander
  Trulsson has investigated how immigrant parents describe the role of musi
 c in their everyday lives and the importance of music learning to their ch
 ildren. She will present data on how the practice of music functions as a 
 potential tool for social success and integration of the children of these
  parents\, how identity and music merges in the ambition of reclaiming a l
