DESCRIPTION:As the Internet traffic volume increases exponentially\, so do
es the demand for fast packet switching between asynchronous network nodes
. A large number of switching architectures is available on the market tod
ay\, however\, the majority of them are either not scalable or reach their
limits in power consumption and complexity. In this talk the Time-Driven
Switching architecture will be presented\, which provides a simple way to
achieve high scalability\, predictable performance as well as low power co
nsumption by utilizing UTC-based pipeline forwarding. Time-Driven Switchi
ng prototype implementations will also be described which employ electroni
 c and optical off-the-shelf components.
