DESCRIPTION:Repeat proteins\, such as TPR\, ANK\, LRR are prevalent in all
organisms. Typically\, their function is to mediate protein-protein inter
actions and to facilitate the assembly of multi-protein complexes. The sim
ple\, modular architecture of such proteins makes them ideal systems in wh
ich to investigate fundamental issues of protein stability and folding. Fo
r the same reasons\, they are well suited to be used as frameworks for the
design of novel proteins. I will present the results of our work on TPR p
roteins\, including both fundamental studies of the structure and stabilit
y of this class of proteins\, and the differences between them and globula
r protein\, and the design of new TPR modules with a host of novel activit
 ies and applications.
