DESCRIPTION:Towards an Optimal Digital Infrastructure\, Rip Sohan\n\nIn th
is talk I will summarise the work of the Optimal Digital Infrastructure th
eme in the Computing For The Future Of the Planet research programme to-da
te. I will also outline some interesting avenues for future work.\n\n\nWe
 b sites' differentiation on data collection\, Sören Preibusch\n\nWhilst t
he majority of online users do not seem to take the privacy characteristic
s of goods and services into account when making consumption choices\, a s
izeable proportion consider differences in data collection and\nprocessing
amongst alternative suppliers. In a self-regulating\, privacy-aware marke
tplace\, companies would vary their privacy regimes to gainfully meet cons
umers' heterogeneous privacy preferences. Based on an empirical Web site e
valuation\, this work-in-progress talk considers the practices of electron
ic retailers and non-payable online services across four industries: (1) c
 an privacy-conscious consumers find a privacy-friendly\nseller/provider? (
 2) is this alternative associated with a price premium? The empirical evid
ence is found to follow the predictions of the economic model of horizonta
 l differentiation.
