SUMMARY:Polarimetry with the GMRT at 610 MHz - Jamie Farnes (Cavendish Ast
 rophysics)

DESCRIPTION:The effect of regular magnetic fields on the evolution of gala
xies and clusters is best studied through observation of polarised\, low f
requency synchrotron emission. Recently\, a full-polar mode has come onli
ne at the GMRT. The talk will cover the calibration of GMRT polarimetric
observations\, so that the instrument can now be used for Rotation Measure
synthesis - an essential technique for lines of sight where the emitting
and Faraday rotating regions are mixed.
