DESCRIPTION:Strigolactones are a new family of plant hormones\, originally
identified as rhizosphere signals\, but subsequently shown to have endoge
nous roles in regulating plant development\, particularly shoot branching.
Their mechanism of action in shoot branching is a matter of debate\, with
alternative models proposing that their primary target is either a transc
riptional effect local to buds\, or a systemic effect on auxin transporter
endocytosis. The evidence underlying these models will be discussed and r
elated to their emerging wider roles.
