DESCRIPTION:Brief abstract: One in 4000 infants is born with abnormalities
  of external genitalia sufficient to warrant formal investigations\, often
  resulting in the diagnosis of a disorder of sex development (DSD). Such a
 n event is increasingly being understood as a traumatic event for parents 
 and specialist psychological input sits on par with surgical input in stan
 dards of care guidelines. However\, little is known about the specific psy
 chological sequela in parents and no systematic protocol/intervention has 
 been put forward. This seminar will (1) explore recent findings with respe
 ct to one specific outcome: posttraumatic stress in parents of children di
 agnosed with DSD\; (2) consider factors contributing to such outcomes\; an
 d (3) discuss strategies for intervention.
