DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will discuss a number of things I think are stu
 mbling blocks to progress in machine learning and issues in Bayesian model
 ling. I will introduce the idea of machine learning markets\, along with s
 ome of the developments that result from this basic idea. Machine learning
  markets involve extending prediction market mechanisms for doing machine 
 learning. One result of this is that implicit probabilistic models can be 
 defined that reproduce and extend some of the standard ways of combining m
 achine learning components together. I will give some of the basic introdu
 ctory concepts in machine learning markets\, and some empirical results on
  standard machine learning problems. I will try to indicate why I think ma
 chine learning markets provide a promising addition to the machine learnin
 g process.
