DESCRIPTION:To make clear my position I will say that it is vital that wom
en engineers are more visible and we encourage industry to recruit\, retai
n\, advance and support their female 'techies' I will speak about some of
the statistics that are deliberately concealed. Also about what I see happ
ening in the global 'policy' circles on issues such as 'Clean Energy' and
in economic development particularly in Asia.\n\nI am very much an enginee
r at heart and passionate about developments in emerging technology and hi
gh tech business. I have also seen many of the global developments of the
past 3 decades from a different perspective than most. Many of the 40 some
thing electronic engineers working in the Cambridge Science Park companies
will have have been laid off several times and seen their salaries stagna
te whilst there was an apparent boom elsewhere. Now many claim that we nee
d to re-boot the economy and grow high-tech business -but with very few UK
professional engineers. \nMen have had a hard time not just women but our
failure to appeal to women is proof of our lack of appeal to men too. Man
y of the challenges the world faces are being addressed by men alone and t
hey certainly do not have all the solutions to the world's problems. But t
he potential is greater than ever before for a good idea to have a global
market. \n\nBIO:\n\nTeresa Schofield is an electronic engineer and Chair o
f the IEEE UKRI Women in Engineering Group and Chair of the European sessi
on of the Global Marathon For\, By and About Women in Engineering and Tech
 nology.
