 e of British state and independent education from his perspective as the H
 eadmaster of a leading independent school and a governor and sponsor of on
 e the Britain’s biggest Academies. He will address the question “What 
 makes a good School?” by offering observations on state-independent scho
 ol partnerships\, the search for the perfect curriculum and the impact of 
 international factors on British education.\n\n\n.\n\n\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKE
 R\n\nDr. Joseph Spence has been Master of Dulwich College since 2009. He w
 as Headmaster of Oakham School from 2002\, having previously taught histor
 y and politics at Eton College where he was Master in College (housemaster
  to the King’s Scholars) from 1992-2002. He was educated at the Salesian
  College\, Battersea\, and at the universities of Reading and London. He s
 erves on the governing bodies of St John’s College School\, Cambridge\, 
 Windlesham House School\, The Dragon School\, Oxford and the Isle of Shepp
 ey Academy\, of which Dulwich College is the lead sponsor. He is a Trustee
  of the Dulwich Picture Gallery and of the Demarco Archive Trust. He is al
 so an historian of 19th-20th century Ireland and a playwright and libretti
