DESCRIPTION:Cobalt ferrite nanoparticles prepared by chemical co-precipita
tion route were synthesized and characterized using XRD\, infra-red spectr
oscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. These nanoparticl
es can be used for sensing ethanol vapours. The physical properties releva
nt to sensing aspects are investigated. The resistance\, responsiveness\,
sensitivity\, optimum working temperature and response time of cobalt ferr
ite nanoparticle based semiconductor ethanol vapour sensor are obtained fr
om the response and recovery curves. They are practically the same with mi
nor deviations in the studied temperature range. The results show that the
largest resistance increase was observed in the 25ºC measurements. On va
rying the alcohol vapour concentration\, the resistance of the sensor vari
es slightly in a particular temperature operating range. The mechanism for
sensing ethanol will also be described.
