DESCRIPTION:During the early Holocene agriculture arose independently in d
ifferent regions across the globe. Subsequently\, farming communities in
these regions came into contact with each other and in the process exchang
ed crops and livestock between regions. At the Darwin College seminar I am
going to present my current work on the Leverhulme Trust project: “Pion
eers of Pan-Asian Contact (PPAC)”. The research focuses on tracing the p
athways of the earliest crops that travelled to Europe from China. Through
the application of a variety of techniques such as flotation\, the analys
is of macrofossils/microfossils and stable isotopes we are trying to track
down what was grown\, consumed\, shared and moved across the Eurasian ste
ppes starting around eight thousand years ago.
