DESCRIPTION:Many people live in extreme poverty\, and we would like to do
as much as we can to help them. However\, we might worry that making a sig
nificant contribution to the fight against global poverty requires great p
ersonal sacrifice. Andreas Mogensen (All Souls College\, Oxford) will revi
ew empirical evidence on the relation between income\, giving\, and happin
ess\, arguing that donating 10% of our income to those charities that most
effectively aid the global poor is guaranteed to be less costly to our we
llbeing than we expect\, and may even be better from a self-interested per
spective than spending our money on ourselves. A talk for anyone intereste
d in doing a great amount of good in their life.
