DESCRIPTION:Depth imaging and inversion of seismic data is becoming common
place within the seismic industry. However the inversion procedures used t
oday have a highly non-convex objective function and will often fail unles
s careful multiscale processing has been included in the workflow. In this
talk\, we will review some approaches to improving the robustness of the
procedure.\nBecause the PDE-constrained inversion procedure used in indust
ry can be very expensive due to the large number of PDE solves required\,
we will review and address some of the numerical challenges in this area.
The talk will concentrate mainly on computational developments and will be
illustrated with industrial examples from full waveform inversion of seis
 mic data.\n
