DESCRIPTION:Almost-sharp fronts for the Surface Quasi-geostrophic equation
are the analogous scenario to vortex tubes for 3D Euler. In this talk I
will describe this connection and a program in collaboration with Charles
Fefferman to construct families of almost-sharp fronts with arbitrarily la
rge gradient but simple geometry. The existence of these families can be u
sed to understand the evolution of fronts for SQG without relying on any t
ools not available in the study of isolated vortex lines for 3D Euler.
