DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT: How to capture the ephemeral movement of the body ha
s drawn \nincreased methodological interest from scholars and practitioner
s working \nacross the arts\, humanities and social sciences. Promising \n
interdisciplinary collaborations are emerging through the shared use of \n
technologies including dance notation and motion capture. The increased \n
affordability of movement capture technologies including Microsoft Kinect
\nand Nintendo Wii are expanding possibilities for arts and social science
\nresearch. But education research has tended to overlook body movement a
s \nteaching and learning can be often conceptualised through cerebral\, o
ptic\, \nand linguistic frames of reference. In this talk\, I will themati
cally \nanalyse interdisciplinary movement capture collaborations and disc
uss \nopportunities for education research.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dr. Denm
ead is a Research Assistant in the School of \nMedia at the University of
Lincoln. He received his PhD in Education from \nthe University of Cambrid
ge. His doctoral research examined creative\, \ncommunity-based collaborat
ions between artists and families. Prior to \ngraduate school\, Denmead wa
s the founding executive director of New Urban \nArts\, a non-profit organ
isation founded in 1997 to build a vital learning \ncommunity in a storefr
ont studio that empowers young people to develop \nlifelong creative pract
ices. First Lady Michelle Obama recognised New Urban \nArts as one of the
premiere arts and youth development programs in the \nUnited States during
  a 2008 ceremony at The White House.\n\n
