DESCRIPTION:We study the stability of a buoyant diffusive boundary layer i
n a porous medium in the presence of a first-order chemical reaction and s
how that it is fully determined by the non-dimensional number Da/Ra2 \, wh
ere Da is the Damkholer number and Ra is the solutal Rayleigh number. The
time for onset of convection is shown to increase with rising . Above a cr
itical \, no convection occurs as reaction stabilizes the diffusive layer
at a finite thickness. This thickness decreases with increasing\, becoming
negligible at. The results are applied to CO2 geostorage\, suggesting dis
tinct regimes of CO2 transport in saline aquifers.\n
