DESCRIPTION:We propose an exact global minimization framework for the Chan
-Vese model with 4 regions in a convex variational setting. A global\nsolu
tion is guaranteed if the data term satisfies a mild condition.\nTheoretic
al and experimental arguments are given that such a\ncondition will hold i
n practice for the most commonly used type of\ndata terms. Otherwise\, a t
runcation scheme is proposed which tends\nto produce global solutions in p
ractice\, should this not be the\ncase. We also build up a convex relaxati
on for Pott's model with 4\nregions\, which is at least as tight as the ti
ghtest existing\nrelaxation\, but significantly simpler. Algorithms are pr
oposed which\nare very efficient due to the simple formulations.
