DESCRIPTION:Abstract: How to respect the making of childrens musical ideas
heard in the making of an opera.\n\nMost projects start in schools (K-12)
\, but end up being presented in institutions like the opera or the Museum
of Contemporary Art. All projects are carried out in collaboration with i
 nstitutions\, universities and colleges\, museums\, the opera\, libraries\
, etc.\nIn this seminar I will reflect my own experience\, when working wi
th small children’s musical ideas my traditional role of being the teach
er is challenged. The children teach me their ideas and my questions make
me understand their thoughts and in what direction this special theme is g
oing. There are no right or wrong\, just good ideas.\nKulturverket started
in 2005 and is part of the municipal administration of the city of Umeå\
,Sweden. Kulturverket is commissioned to give all children in the municipa
lity access to cultural experiences and to integrate aesthetic learning pr
ocesses in the everyday work of the schools.\n”Kids tell pros what to do
”\nKulturverket respect and promote the right of the child to participat
e fully in cultural and artistic life by initiating projects where art pla
ys the central part and children “Tell pros what to do". Children's idea
s\, texts\, music etc. is developed together with older children\, univers
ity students\, teachers and professionals such as composers\, artists\, mu
sicians\, writers and directors. They all cooperate in the final presentat
ion of their work\, which may be a concert\, an exhibition\, or some other
type of performance.\nUnexpected encounters and cultural “clashes” ha
ve lead to new artistic expressions such as A blog opera\, a Hockey musica
l\, Turbo dancing and Invisible Food.\n\nwww.cultumea.com\n\n\nBionotes:\n
