DESCRIPTION:We study dynamic self-organisation and order-disorder transiti
ons in a two-dimensional system of self-propelled particles with aligning
interactions. Our model is a variation of the Viscek model\, where alignin
g interactions arise from group collisions and the particles repel each ot
her at short distances. We use computer simulations to measure the orienta
tional order parameter for particle velocities as a function of intensity
of internal noise and particle density and\nconstruct a dynamical phase di
agram for the system. We discuss the analogy between the dynamical orderin
g and order-disorder transitions in magnetics.
