DESCRIPTION:This seminar will focus on recent state-level immigration refe
renda and voter approved legislation passed in the states of Arizona\, Ala
bama\, Georgia\, and South Carolina. It details how this new legislation a
ims to restrict educational opportunities to Latino undocumented children
despite the fact that the actual numbers of undocumented children in these
states may be low. As such\, these new laws represents a new wave of anti
-immigrant legislation that targets children in order to intimidate undocu
mented families. This session will discuss how these laws conflict with cu
rrent US federal protections against discrimination and discuss areas for
 future research and policy analysis.
