DESCRIPTION:This seminar will focus on the subaltern understandings and pe
 rceptions of “parental involvement” as viewed through the eyes of Lati
 no migrant/immigrant families. It will examine the prevalent discourses wi
 thin education that shape\, define and ultimately constrain our understand
 ings of involvement activity while highlighting how Latino families challe
 nge these stock assumptions. Implications for research\, policy\, and prac
 tice will be discussed.
