DESCRIPTION:The Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy eXperiment (HETDEX) is
a blind spectroscopic survey to map the evolution of dark energy using Lym
an-alpha emitting galaxies (LAEs) as tracers over the redshift range 1.9 <
  z < 3.5. We will describe the project\, including the survey instrument\
, VIRUS\, to be deployed on the upgraded 9.2m HET. We will then discuss t
he main science goals of the baseline survey which is expected to start in
early 2013 and to last 3 years and to deliver spectra of 0.8M LAEs in a 9
cubic Gpc volume. Time permitting\, we will then discuss potential ancil
lary science and extensions of the survey currently under consideration.
We conclude by discussing the current status of the project.
