DESCRIPTION:With now Nobel-prize-winning observational evidence for the\na
ccelerated expansion of the Universe\, we are still in search of a\nthorou
gh theoretical understanding of its cause. One strong candidate\nin this e
nterprise are chameleon theories\, where a new scalar degree\nof freedom m
odifies GR on cosmological scales\, but is screened away in\ndense environ
ments so as to comply with tight fifth force constraints.\nIn this talk I
will introduce and discuss generalized chameleon models\nwhere the conform
al coupling between matter and gravitational\ngeometries is not only a fun
ction of the chameleon field phi\, but also\nof its derivatives via higher
  order co-ordinate invariants.
